Hotel Doolin have become Ireland’s first carbon neutral hotel.

As many of us are thinking twice about travelling to Europe at the moment, at Wasted, we decided we would do some research on the best ‘environmentally friendly venues across our own country. Hotel Doolin comes out near the top of the list.

Hotel Doolin in Co Clare was awarded ‘carbon neutral status’ last year. Nestled in the Wild Atlantic Way, has been recognised by The Green Hospitality Programme for its commitment to sustainability and environmental initiatives.

It achieved a ‘Carbon Neutral12 GREENMark’ award, following the implementation of a comprehensive carbon/energy reduction programme.

This programme focused on minimising energy consumption, investing in green electricity and implementing a long-term solution to offsetting carbon emissions by planting native Irish woodland trees in a controlled location around the hotel.

Interesting Note: We love the response of this Hotel’s Manager on Trip Advisor, when he received a complaint via the review site.
