Supervalu launches Eco back to school range

SuperValu recently launched their latest eco initiative with their new Back-to-School Eco range. The retailer also aims to be fully sustainable by 2025…

The new Eco Range from the retailer encourages customers to consider their everyday purchases and to think green when preparing for Back to School.

Since launching their eco-range last year (2019), SuperValu have doubled the number of products in the range which now features 250 products. And this year, that includes SuperValu’s very own 100% compostable Paper Sandwich Bags! The Paper Sandwich Bags are sold in packs of 30 for €2.29 and can be disposed of in the brown compost bin in school or at home.

The new Back to School eco range encourages shoppers to seek out sustainable alternatives and also encourages parents educate their children on the importance of food waste and sustainability. Over the past 3 months, Supervalu stores across the country have begun stocking Reusable Fruit, Veg & Bakery bags and they now have fully Compostable packaging on their organic produce.

These are all steps in Supervalu’s commitment to making 100 per cent of SuperValu own-brand, fresh produce and in-store packaging recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025.

Ray Kelly, Interim Managing Director of SuperValu, talks again about his goal to be fully sustainable in the next five years.

“We are delighted to expand the Eco-Range in SuperValu stores. SuperValu are committed to providing customers with more sustainable choice and recognise the importance of green alternatives to both our customers and the environment. We will continue to work towards our goal of 100 per cent recyclable, reusable or compostable packaging on certain ranges by 2025.”

Great news from a great, forward-thinking retailer. Let’s hope that others will follow in their green footsteps!
