Check out the new Opel Mokka

We just got a look at the all-new Opel Mokka…

And we like it!

We first spotted the new Opel Mokka on the back of a car transporter heading up Merrion Row. It was the colour that got our attention. The stunning green wasn’t at all what we expected and at first, we didn’t realise it was the latest offering from Opel. Naturally, we had to find out  more…

The all-new Opel Mokka is the second new model from the Opel stable in 2021, hot on the heels of the new Crossland. Eye-catching and boldly styled, it features the German brand’s exciting new Vizor front face and attractive, new interior Pure Panel cockpit. It arrives in Irish forecourts this April. Available in petrol, diesel and all-electric, full pricing and specification details will be announced closer to launch.

James Brooks, Managing Director of Leeson Motors, Opel Importer in Ireland, said: “The new Mokka sports a daring, stand-out exterior and a breath-taking interior. Designed and developed from scratch in Rüsselsheim, Germany, the new Mokka is a showcase of the future of Opel. Fun, efficient, robust and innovative, it is destined to change the perception of our brand and to be a true success with the many existing Mokka customers and conquest buyers alike.”

The engineering team in Rüsselsheim worked particularly hard on reducing weight (saving up to 120kg vs the previous generation) whilst also enhancing body stiffness. The benefits are obvious: the new Mokka consumes substantially less, while being much more responsive, agile and fun to drive. Aerodynamically efficient, with a drag coefficient (Cd) of only 0.32, to deliver lower emissions, an acoustic pack fitted as standard further reduces road noise.

Inside, the new Opel Pure Panel integrates two widescreen displays of up to 10 and 12 inches in size and focuses on the essentials. The central display is deliberately tilted to the driver and provides the latest technologies. In contrast to cockpits overloaded with touchscreen information and controls, the Pure Panel is clearly structured and understandable at a glance. Intuitive buttons still control the most important functions, such as aircon and radio volume, avoiding distractive navigation through touchscreen submenus.

And the great news…

The new Mokka is available as an all-electric model variant, thanks to the PSA Group Common Modular Platform multi-energy platform it is built on. The powerful, almost silent electric drive of the Mokka-e produces 100kW (136hp) and 260Nm maximum toque from a standing start. In the WLTP cycle, the 50kWh battery enables a range of up to 324 kilometres before recharging is required; the electronically limited top speed is 150 kph to preserve energy. Drivers can choose between three drive modes – Normal, Eco and Sport. A 100 kW DC fast-charger replenishes 80% of the battery in just 30 minutes. Opel offers an eight-year/160,000km warranty for the battery.

The lively yet economical petrol and diesel engines offer power outputs ranging from 100hp to 130hp. The fun starts with the entry-level 1.2 petrol 100bhp turbo 6-speed manual (5.7l/100km, 129g/km CO2). Higher performance is supplied by a 1.2 130bhp turbo available with manual or automatic transmission. Despite the strong power output, fuel consumption from this all-aluminium engine remains excellent from both the 6-speed manual or smooth 8-speed automatic transmission with Quickshift technology (5.5-6.0l/100km, 124-137 g/km CO2). The two petrol engines are joined by a lively 1.5-litre diesel 110bhp 6-speed manual, (4.5l/100km, 118g/km CO2).

The new Mokka stays true to Opel’s brand-defining tradition of making innovative technologies from higher market segments available to customers. Standard equipment includes Apple CarPlay / Android Auto, LED lamps at the front and rear, an electric parking brake and traffic sign recognition. Dependant on trim, equipment includes six-way ergonomic seats, heated leather seats, massage function, a 180-degree panorama rear-view camera, navigation, Advanced Cruise Control, Active Lane Positioning, wireless smartphone charging, and glare-free, IntelliLux LED® matrix lights, unique in the category.
