Wicklow Wolf on a mission to become most sustainable Irish brewery

There’s a new dog in town – and they have set their sights on giving the bigger players a run for their money, as they vie to become the number one brewery when it comes to sustainability!

The Indo announced a couple of weeks ago that Naturgy signed a new contract with Irish craft beer manufacturer, which will run over a two-year period, whereby Naturgy will look to supply 100 per cent renewable electricity to the brewery’s new headquarters in Newtownmountkennedy Co.Wicklow

The 17,000 square foot brewery has been designed to dramatically reduce energy use, water waste and its carbon footprint. Wicklow Wolf is aiming to reduce its energy per unit output by 10 per cent over the next five years.

Big challenge for a small but growing local brewery.

Their website claims that each year they invite students to the hop farm to help seed and harvest to learn an emerging farming technique. They also sponsor several local community fund raisers.

They produce all beers with only malt, using only the best raw materials, that are locally sourced where possible. A new gluten free offering is also in the pipeline – and just this year they introduced a lower alcohol alternative!

…we can’t wait to try some! 馃檪
